Find out about the latest Electrician’s Qualification- QCF Level 3 Electrical Award and the courses available.

  1. Nvq Level 3 Electrical

Hi all, I am an apprentice electrician, been a mate for about 2 years but had to go cards in and complete an apprenticeship. This was the only way to get my course paid for and my wages coming in each week to pay the bills. I have always taken pictures and other evidence to put in my portfolio, however i believe i have to do write ups.

What is the QCF?

Nvq Level 3 Electrical

The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) is the new way of recognising achievement through awarding credits for units and qualifications. It provides a way of studying in smaller steps to support career based learning.

Level

Qualifications that use the QCF rules are made up of units. This provides flexible ways to get a qualification. Each unit has a credit value which tells you how many credits are awarded when a unit is completed. The credit value also gives an indication of how long it will normally take you to prepare for a unit or qualification. One credit will usually take you 10 hours of learning.

Units Build Up To Qualifications

There are three different types of qualification in the QCF: Award, Certificate and Diploma. You can achieve an Award with 1 to 12 credits. For a Certificate you will need 13 – 36 credits and for a Diploma you will need at least 37 credits. Accreditation units and qualifications are each given a level according to their difficulty, from entry level to level 8. The title of a qualification will tell you its size and level.

If a qualification includes a unit that you have already been awarded, you can use the unit you have already taken towards that qualification. Units awarded by different awarding organizations can be combined to build up qualifications.

QCF Electrical Qualification

The QCF electrician’s qualifications in the requirements of electrical installations have been designed to allow students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations BS7671. This qualification, or equivalent C&G, NVQ or EAL maybe required for operatives wishing to further their electrical careers by joining some Electrical Registration Bodies such as the NIC EIC or ECA, Competent Person Schemes or the Micro-Generation Scheme.

Objective

The objective of this QCF level 3 electrical qualification is for students to demonstrate they know and understand:

  • the scope, object and fundamental principles of BS7671 the definitions used within BS7671
  • how to assess the general characteristics of electrical installations the requirements of protection for safety of electrical installations
